Ewwwwww bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello all,
So when putting Nutmeg into her larger cage I found that in her small cage were 2 moths, a small (money spider) and another bug, that looked like a large flea!!! Just wandering if these were harmful to her if they bit her???

Re: Ewwwwww bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would they have been in her food, I did freeze it for 3 days or more so no eggs would be there, the moths may have come from the outside as the back door was open and she wasin the room and there are spiders in car and my dog DID have flees but I know they don't affect hamsters. Would the moths' have made dust or moth balls that would affect Nutmeg's respiration system, I have seen more dust around but the moths' appeared today.

Re: Ewwwwww bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ugh - I have a moth issue myself! I shouldn't worry about the money spider I don't think the moths are harmful but I would clean the cage as they can lay eggs and then there are more moths. Which should be easy as you've just put her in a bigger cage Were the moths dead or alive! If they were dead - no worries - she probably killed them. As long as she seems ok I wouldn't worry about the flea thing either - all kinds of flies around at this time of year.
I would suggest freezing food and treats though (although not any treats made with egg). Just in case. Freezing for a week should kill anything.

Re: Ewwwwww bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry - not sure what you mean Lol. Do you mean do a full cage clean and replace the existing bedding? If you've just moved her to a new cage that shouldn't be necessary. I meant it would be easy to clean the old smaller cage if you've moved her to a new large one Or are both cages connected or something?

Re: Ewwwwww bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry . I mean to replace the existing bedding, I had to stay with somebody for 3 days out of an emergency and I needed to take Nutmeg with me so she went in a smaller cage she usually lives in half of the detolf which she is in now. I have thrown the bedding that was in the small cage away as it was some of her existing bedding so from about 3 days ago. Both cages are separate.

Re: Ewwwwww bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That sounds like a good move. Maybe the moths came from the place you were staying and came home with you I freeze the food for a week now, just to be on the safe side.
