Default Fitch or megazorb?

So I currently use carefresh naturals but am thinking of changing to something I can buy in larger quantities. I was set on Fitch as that seems to be what most hamster owners used but then someone posted a link to a 'natural' cage set up and they had used megazorb. It looks like megazorb would be easy to dig and make tunnels in as all the little bits are smaller compared to carefresh and Fitch. So why do more people use Fitch? What makes it better than megazorb?

I was trying to decide between Fitch and Megazorb too and also saw a set up using Megazorb which looked really good! But I read some reviews that said it smelled funny, and my sister said she had used it once for her rabbits and didn't like the smell, so I have gone with Fitch.

I would be interested to see what people who have used Megazorb here think though.

Personally I prefer to use Fitch, mainly because I found Megazorb to be slightly dusty and the Megazorb can also smell if stored damp. In my opinion, Fitch also looks nicer and is easier to spot clean thanks to the colour

We also use Fitch, as an asthma sufferer I have found it doesn't trigger off any attacks. I've not tried megazorb as hams and myself have found Fitch to be okay, plus they are local to us.

I haven't tried Megazorb - I heard on here it went through a phase of being very dusty, but someone recently said it's not so dusty these days. I've also heard of the funny smell!

Fitch is really nice to use and I believe people with tunneling hamsters say it holds tunnels fine! I think the best substrate for holding tunnels is supposed to be a mix of 3 different types - eg Fitch, Finacard and aspen - ie 3 different textures. In Germany they mix hay in with the substrate to help tunnels hold but I've always found hay to have sharp pointy ends and it looks a bit risky for a hammy's sensitive eyes getting poked in my humble opinion!

I have tried megazorb & hated it tbh, I found it did have a bit of a strange smell, it was so dusty it constantly set off my asthma & although it is absorbent it doesn't seem to dry out like other substrates do it stays quite damp, most of mine got binned!
