Everest has escaped

...and I don't think we're ever gonna find her!

We bought her a Barney cage almost a year ago now and its been great. What we didnt notice is she has clearly eaten a hole in the inside corner over a night or two and made her escape, leaving a huge hole in the side of the cage.

I'm gutted, I'm not sure theres much I can do apart from hoping we hear or see her

If you don't know what room she's in you could leave the doors to each room shut, and then leave some food in each room and see if it gets taken. When you know roughly where she is in the house, you could try the bucket trap, which is where you put a bucket in a room with a ladder leading up to it, so if they fall in they can't get out. Definitely try the bucket trap. She is probably somewhere around in the house and can be tempted back. I think someone else suggested putting a wheel out as well, as they can be tempted to use a wheel. Get some tempting treats like cheese or hammy chocolate drops either leading to the bucket trap or in the wheel. obviously you'd need to be on hand if she used a wheel, but with the bucket trap you would hopefully find here there in the morning.

We found her about an hour ago! She was casually sitting in the hallway, grey as a chinchilla, she's filthy, thirsty and hungry. We managed to get a small cage for overnight but we need to get her to the vet tomorrow to check her over and work out how to get a cage more suitable now. Even after half a hour she looks brighter.

We built two bucket traps with peanut butter, I imagine the smell might have tempted her out!!!

That's great that she fell into one of the traps. Hope all goes well at the vets tomorrow and that your able to get her into a cage that will be more suitable for her needs. I have glass & plexiglass tanks myself. Glass is heavy tho.

Defo cant patch up the Barney and im too scared to get another. The vet said her eye is fine (one occasionally stay closed since we found her) but her claws are worn down and her paws have been bleeding - shes obviously been scratching away to get out of somewhere

He said the best advice would be to allow her to live in the small cage for a few days to help her paws rest because shes sooooo active , hanging around like she normally does wouldnt help her.

That's awesome that you took her to the vet right away. That's too bad about her nails and paws I know when my Koala Bear was out of his cage he was scratching relentlessly on some nearby boxes. Hope she heals up quickly & glad she is safe with you again!

She did an amazing job of getting out of wherever she had gone! Glad she's been seen by the vet and has a cosy temporary cage. Just keep an eye on chewing! She might be even more keen to get out now she's done it once - although hopefully she'll be a bit tired and rest after her adventure. Hope you can find a suitable tank.

One note about the falco - in case you were thinking of it - it's a very tricky one to set up because of fall risks. I thought about it once and I reckoned it would need to have the base virtually full of bedding and used as a standard cage basically. Either that or it would need a full level and then access would be very difficult (only has top access).
