Default Is this wheel too small?

I went to the petshop today and was looking at exercise wheels, told the assistant I wanted an 8 inch one for my Russian dwarf hamster and she said "this one is fine for dwarfs " so now I have it home I measured and it's 5 inches. Here's a pic of him on it , is it too small ? He has only run on it for a few seconds.
Thanks

It looks a bit small. Maybe you could take it back and get the next size of the same wheel.

I'm annoyed about it now because the boxes don't state sizes and the store is 25 minutes from me!

Staff at pet shops often give bad/misguided advice as to suitability of toys, wheels and cages.

It may be ok temporarily. The hamster doesn't look like its back arched.

Yes. His back is straight, which is good in a wheel. I think the next size up would be better though.

There isn't much room in front and behind your hamster.

That wheel does look a bit small, I suggest going a size up. Especially if your hammy is younger, then he might have some more growing to do!

That wheel is definitely too small from what I can see & I would guess your ham has some growing to do yet!
You may find it easier to find a good wheel online rather than in a shop, the wooden karlie wheel 20cm is a really good wheel for dwarfs, it does need painting with plastikote first though, I used them for quite a while before switching to the 9" silent runner, it is expensive but the best wheel I've ever tried & I've tried a lot, I'm in denial really & refuse to count how many wheels i have lol! The 20cm trixie wheel is another some people use but I found it horribly noisy, my ham loved it though!

Their back isn't arching so it's okay for now but they have no space left! I suggest upgrading to something like an 8" Wodent Wheel, they're quite reasonably priced, look nice and are very quiet!

Might go ok for a Robo but your guy would like something bigger. The good news is it doesn't look from that pic like his back is bent but it may be just the way the pic was taken so look carefully yourself. The back must be straight with no strain or it can cause injury. The shop was less than helpful to sell you such a small wheel. They either didn't know or care it might not be suitable. I'd suggest getting one online as said above, and next time you go to the shop take a printout of this thread and ask to return it for a full refund. If they are going to give you bad advice don't buy from them.
On another note, I wonder if your guy might like deeper substrate? Or maybe it's shallow there for the wheel?
