Stuff some tissue/toilet paper up your sleeves and leave for a couple of hours and then put in his cage, curiosity will have him sniffing it, this gets him familiar with your smell, do this daily for a week, and try to talk to him more and encourage him. Whenever he appears in his cage, praise him.
Also, I wrap some tasty treats up in the tissue that I've had up my sleeves.
