Re: Bugs
Elliy I hope you don't mind - I made a joke on Megan's goldfish thread saying you could give her some silverfish to go with the goldfish

Re: Bugs
Poor silver fish lol. I don't like killing things even bugs. Silverfish and woodlice are attracted to damp or rotting wood. They cannot harm your hammys though. It's a bit weird they are attracted to your hamster cage. Do you have any wooden or damp patches in your hamster cage? Like some plastic hamster houses Dont allow condensation to escape so that when your hammy sweats causes the bedding to get damp. Make sure there's nothing like that in the cage.

Re: Bugs
well i have to try that newspaper trick, and i dont mind you making a joke serendipity lol, i do find it weird that they were in there. The sand i use is chinchilla sand im not sure what caused them to go into the cage as well its glass and they would have to crawl, not to mention nothing is wet unless well the pee in the sand which makes me think that why they were there.
heres where the sand is its all the way in the back corner

Re: Bugs
is that paper for the background? How long has it been there? They could be crawling up that and when they get in the cage can't get out so go and find the dampest area of the hamster cage. perhaps if you leave a gap about an inch at the top of the paper so they can't climb up to the top of it

Re: Bugs
Ah good thinking! They like paper and books! That's why they suggest damp newspaper to trap them. They could easily drop over from the paper into the sand bath. Although you'd think it would be all the way along the back of the cage then - except the pee in the sand bath might attract them to that corner. Taking the paper off might do the trick.

Re: Bugs
Another thing if you smear a bit of vaseline at the top they won't be able to climb in. People who keep bugs as pets use this trick sometimes so they can't escape
