There is a bit of noise, mostly hamsters feet and depending on how it is sitting and how fast your hamster is running it can bang of the cage floor. Putting more substrate underneath helps but then it can affect the smooth running it it. But even then I find it bearable enough. It is a good wheel. Only Sunday night did I attempt to hang it from the top of the cage - serendipity7000 advised me and to secure with cable ties and it really helps the running of the wheel and keeps it off the cage floor so now I haven't really heard much other than his feet and he smoothly going which I can sleep through and doesn't annoy me. You just disconnect the wheel from the stand and thread the stand up through and reattach the wheel and secure with 3 cable ties to the cage. Hope this helps. They are a good wheel. If it's a Syrian you will need a 12" sized wheel.

I find the Wodent Wheel Jr really quiet for my robos & one WW. They squeaked at first but I put baby oil on the part where the metal meets metal and they stopped squeaking immediately. It lasts a long time concerning my WW, but the robos I have to clean more frequently. But it's a good wheel, still if your thinking of the Wodent Wheel 8 in for a Syrian it would be pushing it, even for a small Syrian. But that's just my opinion. Saw on another thread how you might be interested in a Silent Runner? If so the yellow 9in is for smaller Syrians and might work out great! I have 2 of them. If I ever got a Syrian I hope it will be small so I can use one of those wheels

Silent runners really are silent... Worth the investment in my opinion! All you can hear are the little feet

Mine was fairly silent - I think it's a bit hit and miss - some people get a squeaky one but that can be sorted with a drop of vegetable oil. I found they spun much better hung upside down.

I agree about the Silent Runners though - they really are silent! And spin really well - and you can screw them to the bars with fixing plates
