Little bit is home!!

Eep! I can't believe it. We got a hamster today!

He's a perfect, soft, little Djungarian (Russian winter white dwarf - unpedigreed, so I guess he's classed as a hybrid). He's white with a silver stripe down his back. He was charming everyone in the pet shop with his attention and eye contact. Then we snapped him up and he is the cutest, smartest, most adventurous little boy ever. I'm trying to give him space but every time I look at him he's exploring his cage and stops what he's doing to look at me and try to get my attention.

I'm so in love.

Thank you!! I will take pictures tomorrow (it's almost 9pm where I am) when the light is better and he's gotten settled in a bit.

I'm also taking name suggestions. I'm thinking of giving him a Japanese name, but anything that can be easily pronounced in Japanese works too.

We had a scare last night. I guess I came out of my bedroom too quickly or too loudly (I have to walk through the edge of the living room where the hamster is to get to the stairs) and scared him, because when I looked he was lying still with his eyes open and would not move. I was convinced he was dead until my partner finally open the cage door and poked him. Then he just stared at us really eerily. I feel super guilty. Things were going so well, but I must have really scared him. So now we're trying to give him more space...

I will try to get pictures though when he wakes up again.
