@Serendipity7000

A lot of what you have mentioned you've told me before over on the 'Share your cages' thread.

The orange bars on either side I taped down pieces of black Coroplast/Correx. ( I only found out what that material was today after being shown your video)

I've tried tying up the runged ladder with one of his toys. It was successful but Donny didn't like it as he kept clawing up trying to reach it when he's on the bottom level. (He does like to climb)

He is very tame and doesn't mind being picked up. He actually gets excited and can't wait to get in the Hamster ball when I bring it over, he climbs into the ball himself. I think what it is once he's on the floor for a while he wants to go exploring where the ball won't let him which results in an escapee.

Though I would like to get the Alaska cage (Or Barney , or Alexander) for him for when he come home with me for the summer. (I'm actually at home this weekend and Donny is staying in his old cage which I traded a Cat Carrier for , but it is a lot smaller compared to the one I've pictured. He doesn't spend more than a couple of days though now in that one.)

When I do have him out I try and let him out on the bed and I try using my pillows to block the gaps between bed and wall but then he'll shift gear into full speed mode and rocket off down the other end of the bed and go down before I have a chance to catch him.

The window sill was the only place I could fit a cage. The shelves that I have are too small, the bedside table is underneath the window but I tend to move my arms a lot when I sleep so i'd likely hit the cage if it were there. Though my new room for next year will hopefully be bigger and he may be able to live on my desk. (That is if there's enough room after I've set up two 21" LED PC monitors and a 17" Laptop, which is currently set up on the small desk I have at the moment.) If he can't fit on my desk but the printer can then I'll likely be trying to balance his cage on top of a 2 drawer bedside table that I bought because it was the only thing I could find that was the right height to fit under the fitted desks and still allow space for my printer.

Even if that is still not viable. (I may have to have his cage on the floor, though the room will be on the 4th Floor so I'm not going to have to worry about a cold concrete floor underneath the carpet like the room this year which is a ground floor room.) And I have the Alaska cage by then I'll look into a indoor cage stand.

Sorry! You're right I did post about it before - apologies for repeating myself lol. Love the photos on his thread. It sounds like he has been doing fine where he is and enjoys out of cage time. I just worry about ladders with holes in And thought maybe a different kind of ramp would work. A lot of people like these bendy ones

I was definitely looking into getting that item along with some other wooden items to switch out with items in his cage. (Or at least at the moment deciding what I want to get for his future alaskaor barney cage.) Really wanted a nice wooden log theme for his cage at the start but I kind of inherited things here and there, and currently have a mix match of things. (That slightly bugs me, but Donny doesn't seem to care.)

I have mix and match stuff too - especially with an orange wheel and a pink sputnik lol! Our hamster doesn't care either I just like items that don't break too often and need replacing. The ladder thing is just a safety thing - people on here tend to recommend filled in ramps or tubes/tunnels instead of open rung ladders, just in case of injuries. The bendy bridge ones are quite practical although even they need checking for any large-ish gaps a hammy could get a foot stuck in.

I quite like mix and match anyway. I had to chuck away a few things recently after a horrible moth-hatching incident, so Charlie was short on toys - so he now has a pink egg cup and a heart mug in his cage
