I've considered manufacturing cages, but I'm not too sure how it would work out.Probably wouldn't be much profit if any though, once shipping gets involved

I wish. Yes sometimes it makes you want to invent your own products. A very determined person might be able to manage this, depending on what it is. It would take a lot of work, business plans and marketing to get a cage produced and on the market and might not be very profitable due to competition, although someone has done this with a wood cage range, so a cottage industry could be possible, but would probably be a sideline and costings would need to be done carefully.

They do a 90cm version as well. I very nearly got one but stuck to a traditional cage as it was an upgrade and Charlie was used to a cage so wanted something similar and to keep the layout similar.

A few people have made and sold hamster accessories. And the piggy room makes houses.

Making a wheel sounds great!

I think wheels would be able to have far more profit and would be easier to ship and all that.Just the size and bulkiness of an actual cage is what makes it difficult really, and the time and effort that is required to build the cage and source materials and all that.Wheels are much easier though,so it could be a very good idea

A cage made of wire panels would be nice. You could buy extra panels to expand the size of the cage. Then just buy the bigger sized base and clips to link the panels together.

The cage could be made square, rectangular, L shaped and possibly other shapes.

Panels could be wire, plexi glass. Some panels could have extra doors incorporated in them.

It would take a lot of consideration when it comes to wire cages and such.If a suitable base could be made and all that it could work, but it's hard to say if it would cost more in the end.Great idea overall, just difficult to determine if it would be logical when actually made.

I think selling wheels commercially could be a bit hair-raising - all the safety issues. Even if it was safer than some wheels currently on the market now.

I do think it would be great to have a kind of chameleon cage though - where you pick and choose the bits - eg what kind/height/colour of base, how tall the top wire part is, choice of bar spacing and options for door placement.

A manufacturer could be on to a good thing there as you could tailor make your cage. Although probably everyone would want a big front opening door, narrow bar spacing and a 40cm deep base So they might as well just make one of those.
