Unhappy Robin Williams the hamster- must read!!

Have y'all heard this story about a couple creating a bucket list for their furbaby who's ill: https://www.thedodo.com/hamster-buck...693083936.html

I haven't heard of a bucketlist before, but TBH I don't think it is good for a hamster to be taken out and about all those places. It could be quite stressful for them. Especially if feeling unwell. Sometimes people do things they would like for their hamster rather than finding out what is best for them. I think he would prefer familiar environments and his own cage and the room he normally lives in. Sorry to put a damper on it.

I agree with Serendipity7000, I don't think this is a good idea as this would cause more stress, (although from the pictures it does look like he is inside a car), but when he is ill the stress could make him worse. I also don't like the pictures of him with the rabbits as I think this would be dangerous and unpredictable as who might bite who. I know the intentions of the people are good but I don't think this is ideal to do a bucket list for a hamster. I think it's better to fill there cages with all their favourite toys and chews, and some cuddle time is best for a ill hamster.

I didn't mean to suggest that people include those types of things on a bucket list for their hamsters, I just thought it was a good idea to treasure and spoil your jammies extra during their final days.

A bucket list could include the things you mentioned. There are no rules for a bucket list.

Spoiling a sick hamster would be to leave it alone to be secure in his familiar environment like Serendipity and SKB said. Things that would be appropriate would include giving your hammie lots of veggies, treats and cuddles. Not taken out of his cage if he's sick, let alone your house???

I think there's some misunderstanding as to what a "bucket list" is. It has nothing to do with going anywhere or traveling, that's just what they choose to do in their list. A bucket list can contain just the things you've listed, without leaving the home. A bucket list is created and tailored to the individual it's for- obviously traveling may be out of the question for hamsters.

If my explanation isn't sufficient, please Google the term "bucket list".

I understand what a bucket list is they are things you want to do/achieve before you die.

So what things would you suggest to put in a hamster's bucket list? As this may help us to understand better as what you are suggesting.

Also would this be something you do if your hamster is old/ill or when they are still young/healthy?

Well for my Hammy, I wouldn't wait until she was elderly/sick, because I want her to live a full happy life. So for her list, I would include things like trying every flavor of the Gerber rice puffs- she LOVES the sweet potato flavor, but I think they are four or five more she hasn't tried yet. I've seen on another hamster forum a woman had her hamster "paint" by running thru food coloring into plain white paper- I think that's make a good keepsake to keep my Hammies memory alive after she's gone. She loves to build these wonderful elaborate nests, so maybe one evening I'd give her a whole roll of toilet paper and let her build as massive one as she'd like. I would never take her out of the house unless we were going to the vet. But- a goal of mine is to buy my 1st house before she leaves me- so if that happens another thing I'd put on her bucket list would be to free range in her new room there.

Ok your ideas are a good idea for a bucket list for a hamster (I personally wouldn't do the hamster painting with food colouring as in high concentration it can make hamster Ill as this was mentioned on a previous thread)

as I think from the attached link I think that's where the misconception came from as we just assumed that was what you were applying. So sorry for jumping to conclusion.
