Default Syrian hamsters from Pets at Home (NOT bashing)

Has anybody else noticed Syrian hamsters from Pets at Home usually don't hoard, always sleep behind their wheel and are hesitant to try new things? I don't know if it's just the ones I get which happen to be spookily alike but its such a coincidence. I cannot speak for any of the dwarfs since I always get Syrians.

In the shop they tend to be like that probably through lack of stimulation, space and appropriate wheels (they always seen to have small flying saucers). However I have had 2 Syrians from there, my bella was very confident and friendly and nutmeg so far is showing a lot of curiosity and friendliness of course can't say this for all but this is my experience.

Our first Syrian Forrest was from P@H and he was quite normal, he got bored with his wheel quickly and used to zoom about the house in a Rat Ball as he was too big for a hamster ball.
But he hoarded normally etc, unlike our newest hammy not from P@H who is bonkers hoards everything in her house under her bedding and then uses it as a toilet aswell......

A lot of cages at pets at home don't have a sleeping box or nesting material (so the hamsters are easier to see). So they sleep behind the wheel/saucer as its more private.

There is nowhere they can hoard either really.

Ive had 3 syrians from pets at home. 1 was so tame, the second wasnt too bad after he got used to me, and my current newest one which i've had for 2 weeks was not very friendly at all.

As soon as the sales man opened the glass cage thing they were in they all started hissing and squeaking at him. I chose my syrian and as he manhandled it he started squeaking. It's taken me a week of gaining my new syrians trust and he's finally stopped squeaking at me.

I think the tiny cages their in is absolutely disgusting. The lack of toys, and stimulation is bad too and I just want to give them all a home. My syrian now though is becoming more and more tame every day as I handle him a lot. He hated it at first but he is getting better. I think it also depends how they're treated in the shop, because we don't actually know what happens after closing hours.

I have only ever had one Syrian from Pets at Home. She hissed all the way home and once she settled, she was the friendliest and sweetest hamster I have ever known. When she was poorly, she was well known at the vets and they all loved her and her sweet personality. I have never seen a hamster that loved cuddles so much! In the future I will be getting my hamsters from a local rescue I discovered after Lexi passed. Te main reason for this being that they need a more urgent home than those in pet shops.

I just think they need more settling in time than bred hams perhaps. Yes the cage sizes are disgusting. However they're still young and they don't know no better at that stage of their life. That doesn't make it right but it's the only positive thing to take from the size of the cage
