Confusion With Colours and Patterns
I need some help to identify the colours and patterns of my current hamster, Sherbet and my past hamsters (all of which were/are female). I have always been confused as to what colours and patterns they are as different sources I have used haven’t allowed me to clearly identify it and some leaving me even more confused. I would appreciate if someone could inform me.
1. Sherbet – The picture doesn’t clearly show that she has black fur amongst her brown fur. She also has 2 small brown spots on her back and a series of small spots down her lower back and down her tail.
Past Hamster (My Syrians)
2. Toffee – (Long Haired) – banded but not a full band
3. Cookie – (Long Haired)
4. Cotton (aka Cotton socks) – she has a white belly and feet (I feel really bad seeing her standing on top of her cage bars)

Re: Confusion With Colours and Patterns
OK from what I can see of Sherbert she is either a Banded Dominant Spot Cinnamon, or Rust (can't see her eyes well so hard to determine if they are Black or Red) Pending where you live she may also be Polywhite. Due to Sherbert having white where the normal cheek flashes and Creascents would be makes it almost impossible to say if she is Umbrous or not. Very pretty girl is my vote.
Toffee looks satin which will darken the actual color. Looking at the much lighter shade brown on her nose I would suspect she was a Satin Umbrous Golden Tort band, but could also have been and Umbrous Rust Tort band(ears seem a bit dark for this though)
Cookie looks to be a Cinnamon Dominant Spot(possibly also White belly)
Cotton is really hard as you can only see her head on but I think I see a bit of cheek flash and Crescent on her cheek. No monks cap so I would suspect she was a Satin Umbrous Yellow or Umbrous Golden but without a better photo showing her side view it is impossible to tell for sure.
Both Dwarf Hamsters are Argente

Re: Confusion With Colours and Patterns
Thanks so much Nancy's Hamsters.
Sherbet has black eyes but some times they look more red than black especially when I switch a light on at night (I have a photo of just her face which I can upload later).
Yes she is a pretty little girl.
Cookie did have a white belly
Cotton I think I could have a side view picture but I only have a few of her, I will check if I do and upload that later.
Thank you so much this information is really useful I normally just say light brown, dark brown etc when describing my hamster colour and I need this information for something I'm putting together to remember all my hamster, so I can't thank you enough.

Re: Confusion With Colours and Patterns
By the ticking I would say Sherbet is a Banded Dominant Spot and possibly has the White Belly gene which would make her black eyes sometimes have a red tint to them especially in high light. Cotton looks like an Umbrous Golden by her side view.

I just realized I didn't say what color Banded Dominant Spot Sherbert was. I believe she is a Rust, but with the little amount of coloring she does have she could be a light Golden as well. Still a beauty of a Hamster.
