Default Pets at Home adoptions

Hi all. Not been around for a while since losing our precious Jocci in January.
I'm wondering if any of you have any experience of adopting from Pets At Home? I'm wondering in particular how much info they give about the hamster. Do they tell you it's age and any medical history? There is a lovely, pretty girl at my local branch. Shes adult and has been there a number of weeks. I'm considering taking her on, but would hope to know more about her.

I think it varies from one P@H to another tbh, they can be a bit vague on age at the best of times but they should know if she has had any medical problems.

I think it varies on how much they are able to tell you about a particular animal. When I adopted a Chinese from there they told me why he was returned and that at some point it looked like he'd been in a fight but they couldn't tell me much else. They did say that I was welcome to bring him back for a free health check with one of their vets so that might be something that your local store might offer.

I adopted a little girl last week from p@h. They didn't know her history or age. I still took her anyway because I fell for her.

It most certainly varies from store to store but you should take advantage of the free health check they offer from vets for pets.

If you like her, does she seem bright eyed and healthy? If so then maybe get her and have a vet check done. If she does need any treatment then presumably Pets at Home should pay for it or offer free vet treatment. Personally I wouldn't know really because haven't been to one, just my thoughts

The p@h near me has mentioned the reason for rehoming. I often hear the child got fed up with hamster care or the hamster was a bitter. They are usually still young, so we're most likely not given time to settle in or handled well.

I've adopted most of my hams from P@H and I've never had one with a medical problem. My branch has always told me the vague age of the animal and if they have any medical problems or not (none of mine have had any!) we were told about one that he was returned after being branded a 'biter' by his family but we never had any trouble with him at all so they can surprise you!

They never offered us a free vet check with ours but it's always good to ask just to see if they will offer you that!

If you really like the look of this ham then I say go for it!

I have adopted 3 hamsters (1 Syrian and 2 Robo hamsters) and I had to check the hamsters gender myself for all of them because they didn't know. They did know the age of the hamsters roughly and talked me through their needs before adopting. They also said for my Syrian that if she got wet tail they would treat her for free.

Simple process, some staff are better than others in my store. However I have found that the signs that give info about them are misleading or just wrong. I took on a little one from there and the sign said she was abandoned but turns out she just got to old for them to sell
