Re: Will he get cold?
The first night Skittles buried his entire food dish where it sat and then burrowed down next to it. Indigo is sleeping under his coffee mug tight up against the glass. Only our girl, Peanut seemed to know right away what to do with her house.

Re: Will he get cold?
I got hetty mid December and for the first week she either slept on or near her bedding but didn't go in the house. If you get a hamster from a pet shop I think they're not really used to it so it takes a while for them to realise they can actually be nice and cosy in the houses

Not yet. Although I did manage to hold him a little in the shop he is still a little wary of people. He'll sniff me when I put his food out, but has nibbled a couple of times. Not sure he's quite ready yet so will give him a few more days before I try stoking him again - though it makes me feel like I am neglecting him!

Yeah. Most pet shops I have been to will provide bedding if they don't provide a house. Some back home even provide flying saucers or wheels, though often they're too small! Little Sweep only had his brothers to keep him warm in this pet shop, and they all seemed to sleep on top of each other!

Re: Will he get cold?
Just be patient as you seen what happened to my little girl. I was a little impatient with her and let her out early and held her. Even though she was totally fine with it

Re: Will he get cold?
It does get pretty cold at night at this time of year. I have a little oile filled heater on low overnight and Charlie has been coming out a lot more in the mornings since I've done that. If you have central heating you could set it to come on for a couple of hours during the night to keep the chill off.
I wouldn't put a blanket over the cage he might chew it.

Re: Will he get cold?
Forrest when we had him first used to sleep in his little house then at about 6 months old he took to building a nest in one corner of his cage under the mezzanine and that is where he always built his nest after that.
Pippin is living in her house with a good amount of bedding and about a half pound of food she emptied her food bowl twice and has stashed it in the house and I am sure she is sleeping on it.

Re: Will he get cold?
In the winter I have been putting a hot water bottle at the side of the cage or on top to keep it a little warmer (in a cover or it might warp the plastic) my hamsters seem to like that. Is the cage extendable my bella always preferred having a little cage extension she slept in (in used 2 rotastak triangles with loads of bedding)we called it her little penthouse as she was a diva haha.
