Default Where from?

Hi!
I wondered if anyone knew of any hamster breeders in Hertfordshire/Watford kind of areas? I have already emailed Tuftyfluff but not sure if there are any others? I was just thinking that I'd try getting my new hamster from a breeder rather than the pet shop if I can, though I shall also be calling the pet shops round here tomorrow, to find out where their hamsters come from - I mean, like ask if they come from a breeder or a "hamster farm". I've always had pet shop ones, and generally have nothing against them, I just thought I'd try a breeder first ...

This is a list of Southern Hamster Club breeders. There may be other breeders that others know about

Thanks. Had looked but Tuftyfluff was the only one listed, but thought I'd seen another somewhere else ...

Just had a funny thought Serendipity ... Are you secretly a hamster?! Not only do you have the best ideas for treats or where to buy things from, and you have loads of info, but you are always online at this time of night! So I thought maybe you were secretly a hamster! And if so, please tell me how so I can be one too!!!

It's ok don't worry
Just wondered ... Everywhere I've read says that birch wood isn't safe for hamsters, but a lot of wooden toys are made of birch. Are these specially treated or something?

Hmm - I hadn't read that birchwood was unsafe - where was that? I know Rodipet houses and things are made from Birch.

The answer seems to be on this thread - some varieties are safe and some varieties are best avoided due to salicylates in the leaves and bark apparently (salicylates are what aspirin is made from)

What wood to use?

I assume Rodipet know what they are doing. The warning is more for people using wood they have collected, or for making things I think.
