I did ask them if they'd do that but was ignored. You may be right flowerfairy :/

That's a shame. I thought they would go for that as they could make more money selling them separately.

I would recommend one, but all my new toys, wheel are only dwarf size.

I had reserved a dwarf (rescue) but it was unwell and died.

I can no longer see the ad so maybe they have realized that they can't sell them together or that no one will buy them in a pair. Hopefully they will be separated and re-homed separately .

I was browsing Gumtree and found an ad advertising x2 Syrians, the picture showing them living together. They are both males so thankfully inbreeding isn't a concern but upon reading further into the ad it sounded like they were clearly being rehome to live together in the same cage.

I messaged the person explaining how syrians can't live together and how it would be unfair to rehome them that way and leave someone with a vet bill after a fight or even worse. Although I was careful to word it so it wouldn't be taken badly as I know how easy it is to offend someone by coming across as the 'know it all' who's telling you your doing it wrong!

The reply was that the pet shop they got them from (jolleyes) told them it was okay and was then told to rather kindly 'do one'

My only concern is for the hamsters, is it even possible they won't fight? Or is it almost certain to end badly?
I don't know anything about that pet shop, but pretty much every single pet shop I've been to has signs up sating that Syrian hamsters should always be housed on their own, and then above the dwarf hamster cages says they can be housed in pairs - and they always say that Syrian hamsters cost £X EACH and the dwarfs are £X for a pair. Even the pet shops where the staff don't have a lot of knowledge about suitable toys, or cages, will tell you this, so I wonder if this person said this as an excuse? I do know of people that have kept Syrians together - one who was actually related to me sadly - and have seen the hammies with nasty bites or wounds on them, or lots of different aged hammies in a cage due to them breeding. I honestly don't think there is a single one of those people where it didn't turn out badly. The worst, for me though, was seeing the person who was related to me keep about 10 or so in a tank cage. They all had varying different wounds. I tried to explain, gently, that Syrian hamsters couldn't be housed like this, but they used the excuse that they are like that in the pet shop. For them it also ended badly. I think I've only ever been in a couple of pet shops where every Syrian hamster is housed separately. I guess most are babies still so they keep them together. Though most of the pet shops back in my home town will move them all to their own cage once they are fully grown, even if they have to use up cages meant for another small animal!
I hope these hammies can find someone who is able to take them in then house them separately ...
