Lizzy,
Forrest is two years old .
He is suffering from Terminal old age has now stopped eating and drinking and we are waiting for the end to come hopefully he will pass in his sleep without any distress.
Forrest is my wife's hammy but its me that has done all the looking after of him..

Lizzy,
Forrest is deteriorating on a daily basis, he has had a little food namely some strawberry over the last couple of days he doesn't want any food otherwise. Tonight he got up briefly went up to his water and fell over twice as he tried to get at the spout, so I have put some water in a little plastic lid so if he wishes to he can lap at that.
He doesn't seem to open his eyes anymore they are screwed tight shut and he goes every where by touch and smell, I don't think he will last many more days.
I got him out the other night and while he was on my lap he let out a couple of very pitiful little squeaks which is a rarity.
I will update as things go on.

Why don't you put your hamster to sleep? It's cruel to let it starve to death

They squeak usually when they are in pain!

Aw poor thing. I agree with cinnamon bear... although I understand and respect some people beliefs that we should all go through natural causes. You'll know if it's the right thing to do yourself. Good luck. I hope your little fella perks up in the meantime.

I'm with Cinnamon Bear and Rsclio, sometimes we have to be cruel to be kind. Forrest falling over and letting out pitiful shrieks is a sign that he's in pain. I know what I'd do if it was me, yes, having your hamster put to sleep by the vet is very upsetting but, it takes away the pain and they can be pain free and at peace.

Morning all,
I am considering gaving Forrest put to sleep when I got up at 04.00 this morning the little dude also got up tried to get up his ramp to where his water is and fell off and couldn't get himself off his back, so I helped him up.
As for food he has been eating strawberries and 5his morning some banana. I woyld dearly take himbtobthe vet but when you work stupidly long hours driving a truck the vets are all closed, so I am going to try and get an early finish and take the poor little dude on a final journey.
I can't believe how torn apart I feel about this being an ex soldier, rugby player and truck driver our little dude Forrest has woken so many emotions in my that I didnt know existed...

Cinnamon Bear I am not letting Forrest starve to death I am trying to get him to eat, he has gone off his dry food so I am only giving him soft fresh foods that he can eat and digest easily. I hate and detest cruelty to animals.
After what happen this am approx 04.00 UK time I will be taking Forrest to the vets for his final journey if I can get finished at work early enough .
