Hamsters do vibrate sometimes! From what I've heard, for different reasons. Ours only did it when he was cross after he had a slight fall - so I put it down to being upset, but some people have said they seem to do it when contented, like a cat purring

Where is he when he does it? In his cage?

Female hamster's tend to vibrate when they are on heat. My Storm will sit next to me staring into space for hours while I stroke her when she's in this mood. Didn't know boys did this though

It's not uncommon and it usually means they are not sure about something in my experience. We call it buzzing as it feels like a buzzy bee in your hand!

he usually does it when he is in his cage but sometimes does it outside of his cage as well.

I can feel Pablo vibrating when he sniffs and stands still, he has never had a fall
