New hamster!
Just brought back my new hamster - his name's Vanilla
Very cute, but very timid! When he was handled by the store clerk he was squawking which really worried me, because I'd never heard my last one make any noise at all. He made some little squeaks on the way back too
He's in a nice bin cage with lots of hiding places and food put out. I've offered him a grape as well, but he's not yet eating. I've dimmed the lights and am being as quiet as possible. I hope he'll be OK.
Anything else I can do to help him settle?

Re: New hamster!
As of so far, you seem to be doing everything that you can for your new hammy, Vanilla! I would just leave him to settle in his cage for a little while, so he can get used to his surroundings a bit!
Congratulations on your new hammy!

Re: New hamster!
Congrats on getting Vanilla
Squeaking loudly isn't unusual for a ham that's scared so don't worry, Vanilla should soon settle in & calm down a bit.
Just let him get used to his new home & don't disturb him too much for the first few days, other than changing food & water just talk to him quietly but don't try to interact just yet, do the tissue trick if you haven't already, putting some toilet tissue up your sleeve for a few hours then putting it in the cage, so that when you do come to interact with him or just put your hand into the cage your scent will already be familiar to him.

Re: New hamster!
Still quite jumpy, but settling in now. He's already learned to use the potty!
