Hamster squeaking
Hi, Is it normal for a hamster to squeak? My cookie tends too do it through the day quite often especially after she wakes up for food etc.
I once heard it from my other hamster snowy after we hadn't long had her (2014) but I've never heard it since.
Thankyou!

Re: Hamster squeaking
Hi candice. It depends how frequently she`s squeaking and if you can determine why. Hamsters are normally quiet but can and will make various noises depending on what they are doing or reacting to things. Breathing noises now and then or he odd little sneeze is usually nothing worrying and they can make these sounds after waking up or while still in the nest. If your hearing high pitched squeaks a lot and seeing behaviour that isn't normal, it can be related to pain or discomfort, so you need to determine which it is. Normal or abnormal.
Listen over the cage closely and note down how often the squeaking is happening and if she`s reacting in any strange way. Is she darting about afterwards? Or does she just sound as though she`s sneezing or making the noises intermittently? x

Re: Hamster squeaking
Hi, thank you for the reply! She doesn't do it that often maybe a couple of times a day. Its usually when she has woken up after a sleep for food or a drink. I haven't heard her do it apart from that. From what you have said I would probably say its normal then

Re: Hamster squeaking
Yes, it could be related to the noises they sometimes make upon waking up. A bit like we do after dosing for hours! x

Re: Hamster squeaking
My two are very vocal squeaking amongst other things, they have a squeak for everything! They've always done it so I'm not worried, I think if it's out of the norm for a ham then it's something to worry about.
