Sand wise you can use chinchilla or children's play sand

If you're in the U.S. and possibly else where, make sure the sand is silica free. Silica is known to cause cancer and respiratory problems, and I was horrified to find it in so many children's play sand brands.

Charlie Chinchilla sand is what I usually use. I think if using play sand it needs to be baked in the oven to kill any potential germs.

Agree re; chinchilla sand is best (not the dust).

For substrate I use fitch;

Fitch Recycling - Fitch Pet Bedding

I also use white ripped up toilet paper for bedding/nesting.
