Default New Year, new family member

After having to have my poor boy Kernel PTS and letting the Lack cage sit empty for some time, I decided it was time to maybe start looking for a new Syrian to join the family.

I set up the cage and began the search:

Weeks later, I still was searching until....this happened:

Isn't it adorable???? I say it, because I have NO idea if this little one is a female or male. My husband called it a little butterball when we saw it, so the name kind of stuck! This little one has been named Butters!

Hi and welcome Butters!

I'm not totally sure how accurate this is... But if you can't see anything, I'm going to assume it's a girl. My little man's bits are already pretty obvious, and overall I think he's still a young one!

Thumbs up Re: New Year, new family member

Oh my goodness , Butters is just so gorgeous ! It does have a buttery sort of shade in his/her fur doesn't it ? Great cage setup by the way . I'm sure she/he will enjoy her/his time with you . Looking forward to seeing more pics of Butters and reading about her/him too (it's kinda hard to write this without knowing the gender lol !)

LOL...yes SugarFairy...it's very hard to write a post regarding Butters! We're having a tendency to call him a boy, but honestly...I don't know yet.

Thanks for the cage kudos...I love that cage

Thank you Souffle! Yes, Butters is tiny, so I'm assuming pretty young. I don't know that I've had a hamster that tiny, so is there anything special I need to consider with Butters young age?

Happy New Year to you and your family as well!!!

keeping him/her very calm with a regular routine and plenty dry food mix. In a couple of days start introducing tiny bits of high protein foods like egg white, chicken, tofu and baby food in tiny amounts to start and also a little finger sized bit of fruit and veg each day. Try different ones to see they agree OK with hammy before increasing amounts. Lots of sleep and watch baby does not overdo wheeling! Just like any young baby I'd say. Butters looks about 5 weeks to me

They said that they thought the litter was about a month old. Thank you SO much for the info for young hamsters. I knew about the wheeling, but not the nutritional info....VERY helpful! Thanks again
