Default Laser cut wood?

So I bought a wooden christmas tree style hanging chew from pets at home and I've noticed the wooden hook to dangle it from has been laser cut (it has dark edges from where the laser burnt it). They have gotten rid of the ash but there are still some black stains.
Would it be best to sand it a bit extra? Or is it perfectly safe?

It's perfectly safe. The laser is just very concentrated light so the dark stuff you see really is just singed wood

If you don't like the look you could sand it off though.
