Hammy problems
So I had a woman with a hamster who was going to have hammy babys. Well I just learned that the hammy had them but killed them all that means I have to wait even longer to get my baby that I have been dying for for weeks! hammy lover problems .
Thanks for listening.

Oh sorry. the mother hamster might have been stressed and that's why she killed them all. I know when our hamster that we bought a pet store (did know about adopting them)(that was back in 2005) and they said they where 2 female. Well 15 babies later we know that 1 was not a female. We left them alone. A week. Just cleaning what we HAD to.. We called a pet store to see if they would take any. They said " They would freeze for snake food. We hanged up on them and we keeped them all. Boy was that a lot of cage we had to clean, when they left there mother. Hopeful you get you hamster soon.

Oh, so sorry for your loss! I know you didn't have them yet, but the death of an expectation is also very hard.

Re: Hammy problems
Was she a breeder? I think it's unlikely the Mother would have killed all the babies if it was a breeder. A hamster Mum does this to protect the babies sometimes, if someone has interfered with the cage or contents. Breeders leave the Mum alone with the babies and don't handle her or the babies and just put food and water out at first. If any of the babies died the Mum would 'dispose' of them and sometime she would cull one if she sensed it had a genetic abnormality or something. For all the babies to be called does suggest they weren't bred properly.
I'm so sorry for your disappointment - maybe you could adopt a hamster or find another breeder? Are you in the UK or the US (or elsewhere?) and we can suggest somewhere you might find one.

Re: Hammy problems
I'm not sure if she was or not. I'm in the u.s.a. I'm waiting for her new litter that she is hopefully going to have after the woman that's breeding her gives her a break for a little while. Thank you Chezzu. Thank you for the information Serendipity7000 and help.

Re: Hammy problems
Could I suggest you look for a hamster somewhere else? If one whole litter has been culled, it doesn't bode well for a second litter possibly. I'm not sure where you look for rescues and breeders in the US but I'm sure a US member will know.

Re: Hammy problems
Hello BijousGirl. I am so sorry to see this post. It's hard enough to be waiting for a litter to grow up a bit before you can bring a hammy home. Having the litter be lost is even harder to deal with. I agree with Serendipity about seeing if there are any hammies available for adoption in your area.
There is a rescue organization close by me where I get all my pets. Most people only think of rescues in terms of dogs and cats. Many rescues also have hamsters, gerbils, reptiles and fish too. Hop on the computer and search for rescues near you. You can call them and see if they have hamsters available. I hope you succeed in getting your own hammy soon.
