Default Sleeping patterns

Hey guys! As some of you already know I brought a new little hammy home on Thursday. He's very nervous but making slow steps towards becoming more confident. I'm taking taming very slowly and not forcing it. He took a sunflower seed from me last night but didn't take another so I left him to his own devices. I've also been talking to him from my bed (it's not very far from his cage) so that he gets used to my voice. So all is going well - however, he doesn't rise until around half twelve/one in the morning and I've had to force myself to stay awake to get any interaction from him. I'm off work at the minute (I work in a school so I only work term time, woo!) but I'm back to work next week and can't sustain staying up that late every night. Has anyone got any suggestions? Thank you

Feed and water earlier in the evening, making a bit of noise, talk to your hamster (not excessively load though) so it alerts your hamster to what you are doing. Put out a treat, veg etc just outside the nest to encourage your hamster to wake up (smell the treat and wake up).

Thank you, I've been putting his food out and changing his water at about eight o'clock at night. I've been careful not to be too loud but taking his water bottle off/reattaching it makes a fair amount of noise. I will try your suggestion with the treat though

No, nothing yet. He's still asleep :/ I've tried prompting him with a treat but so far no luck, stubborn little guy

Maybe a little warm porridge will tempt him (the smell) or cheese. The key is finding what treat works.

What treat did you use.

When I was young I would take the lid off the house and offer a treat or place it on the nesting material.

I used a small piece of carrot (the only thing I have other than meal worms and sunflower seeds - I'm waiting for a delivery of treats) - I think he's awake, I can hear him munching away on his hoard but he usually does this quite a lot during the day then just goes back off to sleep. I'm getting tired now but trying to stay awake so I can at least talk to him a little bit if nothing else

At least he's awake. Try the mealworms and sunflower. He may come out as soon as the lights, tv etc are turned off.
