got one of the Charlie Chincilla sand 2L bottles, it cost £3.99 but there is plenty of sand changes for 2 hamsters. It is a lot less fine than the dust.

speaking of sand/dust now that its brought back up... i was curious i have read articles and such about children getting sick from eating sand because of parasites and stuff in animal poop when animals have gone in sand. is that an issue with this type of sand? would such parasites affect hamsters like they would humans? Just curious mostly... plus don`t want to see sick hams.

When using sand pit sand I've always baked it, to attempt to kill off any paracites, but they may mean children using sand pits outside,
for example, at my junior school we had a long jump pit, and cats used to wee and poo in it.
I think chinchilla sand is pumice, so I assume they can make it in a factory from larger pieces? Rather than getting it from a beach etc..

I used the p@h "dust" for years until I read here that it wasn't good. Now I have Charlie chinchilla and if I'm honest I don't see a difference :/

^ Also i was googling about it and came across this thread, replied and realised when the last post was xD
It may be a case of like fluffy bedding though, i used it with all my hamsters when i was younger and nver had a problem with it at all yet some people have had extreme problems with it, best to use things they are allowed than use something they aren't just because its not showing any problems...

A few days ago I went and got some chinchilla sand for my Syrian, Hamilton, because I wanted to try it out. The only box of sand was way too big as I only wanted to try it, but I bought it anyway. When I got it home it seemed so dusty! Is the sand supposed to be so fine? I mean I can feel the grains in it but still . . . Anyways Hamilton is not very interested in it So now I have a whole box of sand.
