Trying to identify color
So I have a Syrian hamster who I know is a standard satin. I just can't figure out her color. I am pretty sure she is either a cinnamon, champagne, or cream. These colors are so close its hard to tell. Also how do you tell if you ham has red eyes? Is it obvious?
Here is pumpkin

Re: Trying to identify color
To me she looks like a Red eyed cream. From the first picture it looks like she has red eyes - hamster can have various shades of red eyes depending on their coat colour. You can see her eyes are a dark red which is known as claret red in REC's

Re: Trying to identify color
Oooh, shiny!
I don't see any sign of cheek flashes on her, so not cinnamon. Champagne tends to have a little more brown in the coat, so I'd say she's a red-eyed cream satin.
Red eyes are, well, red. XD They look red regardless of lighting, but can be harder to tell if their eye colour is particularly dark. Black/brown-eyed hamsters don't have any sign of red in their eyes. Here's my red-eyed Bubbles, compared to his black-eyed sister, Pippy (RIP).
Edit: Of course I'd get ninja'd as I was finding suitable images. XD To show the variations of redness that can occur even in the same hamster, here's my Fluffy IV. He's a long-haired, red-eyed banded cinnamon, with one bright red and one dark red eye.

Re: Trying to identify color
You're welcome, glad I could help. She's very beautiful I didn't know at first until I started studying the genetics and coat colours of Syrians. It's very interesting.

Aww thank you! >.<
I would love to learn more because it is such an interesting thing. I also have rats and their fur color can say a lot about them in regards to breeding. So I am wondering if the same thing is true about hamsters.
