Question Peeing in the Wheel?

Has anyone else noticed their hammies peeing in their wheels? A lot of my hamsters have done it over the years, it's awfully strange to me. I figure they're marking their territory. :P

They do it for scent marking as far as I'm aware

The more the wheel is cleaned, the more the gorgeous fluffs are likely to keep doing it. Minimal cleaning with just water, or a quick wipe with a tissue if it is still wet.

I've often wondered if, being prey animals, hamsters often do not always have the luxury to stop for a nice pee. They have to pee while on the run. It probably is the scent marking thing though.

Totally normal, it can be scent marking (in which case Artisans is right don't over clean or it will just get worse!) just laziness, can't be bothered to get out & pee somewhere else or with young hams they are often just so excited & having so much fun I don't think it occurs to them to stop for a pee!

My Chineseys have been the worst for that, particularly May who seems to love running in her wheel so much but I'd rather them pee on their wheel than all over their wooden toys or in their nests. Sooty has ruined two wooden hamster cottages by peeing in them (something that my Chinese never do) so she's now got to have a plastic house.
