How many hamsters are two many?
I have three at the moment and although I don't plan on getting another hamster I do wonder what would be to many for someone that:
1. Works from home.
2. Has three dogs o3o
3. cant go to the pet store encase I bring a new hammy home.
4. has enough room/money/food ect for hamsters.
5. has lots of time for pets.
I just wanted to see what you guys think.

Re: How many hamsters are two many?
I'm not sure what constitutes having too many hamsters. I think that is up to the individual. I don't work from home and I currently have one. I'm thinking about a second one, but my concern is how to care for them when I go on vacation.
I think too many hamsters would be if your lifestyle does not support taking proper care of them.

Don't think it needs to be any more complicated than this tbh.

Re: How many hamsters are two many?
I am very happy with my 5 girls but with Rue being poorly now and Bracken frail with old age, I am spending a great deal more time in making sure that they are looked after properly and getting everything they need. Getting the food ready for Bracken and Rue alone really adds much more time, twice a day now. None of it is begrudged, I will always put the girls first. I'll even go without dinner myself, sometimes, if it simply gets too late for me to eat.
So it's another dimension to consider...making sure that there is slack in the system to give additional care when a fluff is unwell and that could be for more than a couple of weeks.
I'd best get back to feeding duties, this was just a quick break.

Re: How many hamsters are two many?
Thank you M&J. The full story of me and the fluffs will be revealed through the photo thread in October but in brief;
All my girls are dwarf fluffs and none are related. Bracken was my first, a hybrid, then came Rue, a pet shop hybrid. A month later, I rescued two girls who are both now at the bridge, a robo and another hybrid.
After some time had passed, Fey, a new little robo, joined Bracken and Rue. I was then keeping a place for a pure WW but whilst I was waiting another little girl needed rescuing, so Marram arrived one night and then finally Elynor, a pure WW, joined the merry band and here we are, plus Henry the Budgie.

Re: How many hamsters are two many?
I have two hamsters and that's more than enough for me.
I work full-time and live in a small flat, so space and time limits any more hams.
I'm also very much a dog person and spend a hell of a lot of time out doing things with my dog or at dog events - two hamsters fit in fine, time wise, with this. But I don't think anymore would work.

Re: How many hamsters are two many?
I think virtualkeith hit the nail on the head, too many is when your lifestyle doesn't support them, which could mean for some people one is too many!
I'm thinking about getting another too, and my main worry is also who I will get to care for them when we go on holidays.
For me it's also a time thing - at the mo a lot of my time and energy is spent on my daughter, but when she goes to school I'll be working from home more and that ironically gives me a lot more time on my hands!
