Fish tank ornaments
Hello, I have a quick question: Are fish tank ornaments safe for hamsters?

Re: Fish tank ornaments
They can be, check for quality though, I've come across some that have sharp edges that would be dangerous & make sure there are no holes or spaces your ham could get stuck in!

I'd say no on most. They tend to be hollow to allow the air to escape when placing them in water and the holes and space inside would be dangerous if a hamster went in. Also the plastic plants wouldn't be very safe if the hamster eats it. So you need to check for dangers first. All aquarium accessories should be non toxic

Re: Fish tank ornaments
Your right about the plastic plants, I forgot about those, I was thinking more of things like artificial rock or stone, stick with the resin things & avoid plastic that can be chewed.
It depends how big your ham is too, I have a couple of stone effect heads & Mickle loves to sleep in hers & Zephyr used to love climbing on hers too.
Things made for reptiles are often more suitable than aquarium things.

Re: Fish tank ornaments
May has a stone cave that she uses to hide her food stash in and she's fine with that but I probably wouldn't be thinking of using much else with her because they're quite often made of plastic or have plastic parts that would cause problems if she started to chew it or they had holes that she could get stuck in.
