Re: Loads of Questions I need to ask!
1). What happens to 'non-adopted' hamsters at pet stores? (Pets at Home, Just 4 Pets etc.)
From first hand experience from working in a Pet Supplies Store Not sure how it is with technical "Pet Stores"): Technically, if the hamster is "for sale" it's not up for adoption. Where I work, the only way an animal goes up for adoption is if they are "surrendered" by a previous owner after the 30 guarantee period, if the animal is brought back as pregnant and has the babies, the babies go up for adoption (the adoption is usually a donation amount) after they are mature enough, and the mama goes back on the sales floor (if it is brought back before the 30 day guarantee).
2). What happens to 'unsold' hamsters at pet stores? (" etc.)
Unsold hamsters (or any animals) are marked down and input as a "Length of Stay" reduction.
3). What's the best hamster feed to buy? (Best food mix for hamsters).
The one I've bought from 'Just for Pets' is 'FAB Hamster Feasts with Fruit'. Smudge absolutely adores it. Much better than Wagg's 'Aldi-like' hamster food - if you get me. All I want to know is if the hamster food I'm giving her is good for her.
I feed Oxbow to our rats and hamster.
4). [I know this isn't a hamster question, I'm really sorry mods] Guinea pig food, we have 2 guinea pigs too, one of them is very ill and sneezes harshly once every hour. He's very quiet, hasn't touched his food or water. I was just wondering what's wrong with him?
Take him to the vet ASAP!!!!!!!! Are you feeding a balanced diet of fruits, veges, hay and pellets/GP formulated food? Feed Oxbow, Higgins, or ecotrition. Have you fed your GP cabbage? If not, NEVER do!
5). Also...-what's the best Guinea Pig food available? I've bought some with the grass and leaf mix, wondering if that's good enough?
See above. Do NOT feed cabbage!
6). Finally, I hate *pet shop name removed*...-for some reason they don't look after their pets well. I always seem to find overcrowded hamster boxes, adoption boxes...etc.
What "pet shop" is this? In Supplies stores: Chinese dwarf hamsters, since they are very calm and docile, there can be up to 6 in a nice sized habitat. For Robo's about 2 or 3. Russian Dwarf/Dwarf 3 to 4. Djungarian's/Winter's White/Sunburst DJ's: 3 to 4. Syrian: 1-3. At least this is what I've come to notice as the norm/as a pattern.
