Smile Play area for Robos

Ok, we have now had Sargent Pepper for two weeks and he seems to love his new home and life in general. I think it is now time to start thinking about a play pen for him. Graham, (my partner) is better at handling him than I am but I am getting better.

What sort of things should I put in his playpen for him and how long should he be in there for.

For his playpen I am thinking of getting a large deep plastic box. I don't think I would like to trust him in a playpen that you can purchase, as he is a very very fast little lad.

Plastic boxes don't have all that much space to zoom around so it might be worth thinking about either making a playpen out of cardboard or plastic sheets, they can't climb either so your robo would be safe enough as long as there are no gaps. I use the metal playpens from Zooplus for my dwarf hams & they can't climb out of those either, they do need supervision obviously but are quite safe in there.
As for what to put in there, any spare toys you have (or take some out of the cage) hideouts, wheel, sand bath, egg boxes & toilet roll tubes, anything he can have fun with!

I have a plastic tub that I put Hector in when I clean him/to interact with him. It's not that big to be fair but he does have a history of being weirded out by too much space. I give Hector a wheel/saucer, hide some sunflower seeds about & use loo rolls & cardboard boxes. The ones for cereal/snack bars are a good size I find, especially if they have a hole on the front. The boxes for frueslis bars are good & the Tunnocks snowballs one was a favourite. And of course you get to eat them all to give them the box. A hard life I know.... I also put a bit if substrate from his cage in too. Partly so it smells familiar & also cos he likes sticking his head in it. Basically what Cypher said. The only thing I would say about that is to make sure nothing is near the sides as in theory, Robos can't climb but Hector gives it a bloomin good go. Not cardboard or plastic but he will pull himself on to things. And can stretch further than you'd think...

The sacrifices you make Velma!
Good point about not putting things close to the sides, I forgot that & it is surprising how long any ham can make itself when it wants to

Given the recent discovery that my robo -who with his furry paws has poor grip allegedly- can monkey bar around the roof of his cage has made me extra paranoid

And I am selfless in the pursuit of finding suitable boxes for the hams

Thanks for all your advice it is really helpful. I think I will start with a big plastic box. It is big about 1m long and quite high. See how he goes and after that I might consider giving him a bigger play area.
