Introducing my newest furball!

I began my hamster family (and my love of hamsters) with a dwarf named Smudge, that I adopted from the SPCA, from a hoarding situation. She was ADORABLE, but I unfortunately had to say goodbye to her and I haven't had a dwarf since...Syrians and Chinese hamsters, but no dwarfs. I've very much missed having one. So...I went to the SPCA a few weeks ago and of course...did not come home empty handed!!! She is, I'm assuming, a hybrid. I couldn't decide whether to keep the name they had or change it, so I put up a few polls and it's official...Anya is keeping her name!!!

Anya is about 13 weeks old and because she was in this tiny little unit at the SPCA, I decided to upgrade her a little at a time, so she started in a smaller bin cage that I use as a travel cage. She's well on her way to being tame. Will run over and sit in my hand when I have treats, approaches the front of the cage when she hears my voice, etc. She's not too keen on being picked up yet, but the volunteer at the SPCA told me that they had been working on handling with all of their hamsters...I liked hearing that!

So...here's Anya!!!!

This afternoon she was upgraded from her bin cage to a Marchioro Kevin 82 and she is already LOVING the amount of space!

Anyone happen to spot her in the second picture?

. Looks like Anya is being spoiled like a proper little princess!!

Thanks Piebald, but looks are deceiving...she's a little fluffball chunker

lol I mean, seriously...just look at her in all her round glory!!!

Honestly...I LOVE the cage/set up too...it's the Kevin 82 and I've wanted one forever. Finally got a hold of one & I love it.

As and adult owner, I adopted my very first hamster from the SPCA. She was amazing! I've had both good and bad experiences with purchasing hamsters from big chain stores. I don't think I'll ever buy a pet again! Adoption for me...
