Re: I'm getting a robo on weekend ! :D
Good news. But I understand that Robos should be kept in pairs or small groups, as they are the most sociable of hamsters. They are adorable to watch, as at play time they get up to all sorts of funny antics. But, you may have a problem in telling them apart, as they all look so, so similar.

Robos, like most dwarf hamsters, are better kept singly unless you are prepared for separations, a spare cage and the knowledge to spot trouble if one should kick off and start to bully it`s cage mate. For someone who has never had a robo, I wouldn`t suggest getting a pair. At least not at this stage. x

Hi DwarfHammie. You need to let the little one settle for a couple of days. As you go near the cage speak softly. Once hammy starts showing interest when he hears you, then you can start the taming process. If S/he seems anxious, back off and wait a bit more. Let the hammy go at his/her pace. What you want to do is build trust and that takes patience.

Re: I'm getting a robo on weekend ! :D
Hi racinghamster: I would disagree with you. Dwarfs, unlike Syrians are very social animals and prefer a company. I have had 15 dwarfs so far and only ONCE has one fought and had to be separated. Fighting and disagreements are not that common and at times last only a day or two. My have had the odd grudge, but all short lived. Anyway, there is not a difference between keeping one and having a pair. I have had groups of 4 without any problems, except once....

Re: I'm getting a robo on weekend ! :D
I`ve had four robos to date. The first were a pair of males and they had to be separated after about five months in. The next two were on their own when I adopted them so I felt better about keeping singles. It`s fair to say that a pair might get on for life and just squabble, but I would strongly suggest only doing so if you are prepared to have more than one cage.
DwarfHammie may want to risk that, but it`s a personal choice and given the number of separations that have happened on HC alone over the past year or so. Mainly due to unsuspecting new owners being coaxed into buying more than one hamster by a pet shop thinking all will be well. t`s an easy choice to make when your inside the shop, but two months on, it may well not be. Everything depends on the hamsters getting on. x

Re: I'm getting a robo on weekend ! :D
I've had dwarf pairs but only single robos. Both of my robos have been adoptions from p@h. Hector my current robo had to be separated from his cage mates as he'd got picked on. And I've seen plenty of lone robos in their adoption section that I suspect are there for the same reason so it's worth considering adopting & giving a little robo a second chance. Even it means you only get the one.

Re: I'm getting a robo on weekend ! :D
Totally agree velma. Adoption robos should be given a second chance because chances are, they were bought as a pair originally and were taken back to the store, or they were too old to sell as a `baby`. The hamster might be a little older, but I never let age get in the way. My last rescue roborovski was TWO when I got him off Gumtree (advertised as "nearly two years old but still has life in him" and he lived into his third year, so don`t let age be a barrier! x
