Jess & Kiwi, New Additions
I'd like to introduce, two new additions to my hammily. Jessie, he is a Winter White, (hybrid) & Kiwi, she is a robo. I adopted both from my vet clinic. I don't know much about them, other than, Jessie is about 1 years old, and Kiwi, about 1.5. I'm Kiwi's 3rd hammy parent.. Jessie was bought for a young child, and Kiwi was also adopted for the same child, however, the parents didn't want the hamsters, no longer, since both hamsters bit the child. Both hamster's came in very tiny Critter Trail cages- Jessie's wheel was much too small, and Kiwi's wheel, was broken, and each had small houses.. that was it.. the substrate used was shredded notebook paper. Neither hamster's knew how to build a nest.. Kiwi sleeps in the open, and Jessie, has started burrowing under the substrate.
Jessie's new cage is an 55 gallon tank, and Kiwi's in and Ikea Detolf, which I've split in half, due to it's size, I didn't want her to go into shock..LOL.. I'll see how she gets on, and may open the other half, but for now, she's in half the detolf.

Re: Jess & Kiwi, New Additions
This is Kiwi's home. Although, I've split it in half, since taking this photo.. I thinks she may have neurological condition.. which I did not know, when I adopted her.. So, I had planned on her being in the entire Detolf.. but for now, she has half of the space, until she gradually adjusts..

Re: Jess & Kiwi, New Additions
These are the cages they lived in.. truly broke my heart when I saw them in these cages.. there was nothing for them to do, and no space at all.

Poor little hams, it's sad to hear what they've been through & those cages are awful but they've both struck lucky now, it's great you've taken them on & I know you'll give them the best life they could possibly have.
Jessie is really gorgeous, such a sweet little girl, they both are & most certainly deserve a good life now!

It's heartbreaking to even think about them being in there, I don't think I'd want to see it but I know you will do your best & give them great lives.

Re: Jess & Kiwi, New Additions
I am so glad the two have found a great new forever home, no wonder they were biting. Hamsters really aren't for youngsters. It breaks my heart every time I see cages too small, the Government really needs to make it illegal to sell those when the pet is known to be too big for them.

Re: Jess & Kiwi, New Additions
Better two small cages then the ad on CL here in Ohio that has a robo and a Hybrid(mostly WW) TOGETHER in a 10 gallon tank I would think. They think they are going to get $50 for the two hamsters and the tank which has only one igloo, one mesh 5 inch wheel, and one bird size water bottle. I feel sad for them but the owners insist they LOVE each other and the price tag is firm.
