How many weeks do you leave before you feed your hamster a treat?
Hello,
I have been recently wondering how many days or weeks must you leave in between giving a treat to your hamster as I have given Gimley and Meeko their treats- last week- on Tuesday or Wednesday and I am thinking do I give them another treat next week or in three weeks?
Advice would be appreciated.

I used to give my previous rodents a treat every evening for coming up to the cage door to greet me. It didn't do them any harm. They should be fine as long as you don't give them too many

That depends what you mean by a "treat"
I give fresh fruit, veg or protein every day. I try and give it after a positive behaviour like climbing onto my lap, into my hand or into her carrier but it ends up in her food bowl anyway. As for "treats" like store bought or sweet treats like yoghurt drops, she has to really work for those, maybe twice a week

Ditto - I give fresh veg and something extra ( a nut or raisin or piece of cheese etc) every day. For treats I give Rosewood naturals treat sticks - he usually gets one when he'd had a bit of cage cleaning as a treat and it lasts for ages. Sometimes when he's out of the cage he'll get a treat (I like the Rosewood little hearts - he loves the pink ones) as a special extra - maybe once a week. I don't give him any sugary treats at all now.

I agree it depends what you mean by a treat.
Mine get their veg every day, I use a home made seed mix as a treat & they generally get a very small amount of that daily, a tiny piece of cheese or a piece of nut maybe once or twice a week & something like a monkey nut or piece of dog biscuit about once a month depending on how much they've eaten.
I don't use any commercial treat apart from the shrimp cookies which they get so rarely I don't really know how often, christmas & birthdays probably lol!

Ooh those shrimp cookies are great. Big treats! Yes probably Christmas, birthdays and traumas only here for those too.

Re: How many weeks do you leave before you feed your hamster a treat?
May gets something after playtime every day but that could be anything from a sunflower seed, a piece of fruit or veg or a commercially prepared treat. She only tends to get a commercially prepared treat such as a yoghurt style drop every two weeks or so. She's not all that keen on them anyway so I don't think she'd be that bothered if I stopped giving them to her (and I will be as soon as this lot have run out).
What sort of treats are you normally feeding?
