Default Scandinavian Hamster

I was just wondering, how do hamsters react to the day/night ratio that exists in Scandinavia. Will it have an effect on their sleep pattern?

In Stockholm where i live, in the summer right now, the sun come sup at 4 am, and sets (now) at 10pm. In fact in june we will only get a slight darkening of the sky for 2-3 hours at midnight. In winter the sun sets at 3pm, and rises at 8-9 am.

That's a very good question! I never really thought of hams with those kind of extremes, my hams are spending a lot more time in their nests or burrowed down somewhere at the moment & are less keen to come out with the longer days, they get up later & go back to bed a lot earlier so I'm sure yours will be affected to some extent. Can you darken the room to give them a longer "night"? They do still seem to know it's daylight even in a darkened room but it might be better for them that way.

We do have really thick blind that we pull down, and they stay down usually until 9 am, but my main concern is during the winter, since winter can last from october to end of february, if not march. Temperatures are not THAT low, but im not sure how the combination will affect my pip.

As long as Pip stays warm enough I wouldn't worry tbh, I would think the increased daylight is more likely to disturb a ham than a long dark winter, I think they all adjust in their own way.
