I looked after my daughters hamsters last month for nearly 10 days. The Syrian, Jarvis, is well handles and used to out of cage time either being played with or in his playpen. I expected to have him out after a few days settling to smells/ noises. Not a bit of it! He made that quite clear and I did not want my big hand following him in the cage. I even put his cage on the floor and opened the big front door with his playpen and toys outside. After 2 hours he had not even come to the door. When he was collected my daughter was horrified and woke him up and he came straight out. Then I could hold him and play ok. He was none the worse for his stay!

Comet is doing great! He's been sleeping out of his nest because it's pretty warm, he loved the millet, flax and mealworm I gave him. I only gave him a little because I'm not sure if he's had those before I think I will hold him today and see how he is. I'll try the putting his cage in the playpen with the door open to see how he goes. He's such a sweet little oldie, bless him.
