Default New hammie, apparently 10 weeks?!

I was passing a petshop today when I noticed this little girly. She is absolutly massive! The shop keeper said she was 10weeks. She seem a little large for 10weeks, I've never had a hamster this size even fully grown! she weighs 162g! whats everyone elses opinion? Shes not pregnant is she?!

She certainly is a big girl. One of my pet shops girls weighed 182g at 12 weeks so I don't think its too unusual...someone correct me if I am wrong! It may be her build. I suppose time will tell about the pregnancy. I guess you could weigh her in a day or so to see if she has had fast weight gain and keep on the look out for bumps..?

Mavis was 10 weeks when I brought her home from the pet shop and 2 weeks later...pups!! I don't think there is any definite way of telling. Mavis didn't even look preggers, it was a complete shocker.

Aww she is very cute. It depends on where the pet shop gets their baby hamsters. She may have come from a hobby breeder who breeds large lines to show. 162g would be a reasonable size for a 10wk show hamster. She could be older than they said also and if she did not have a wheel or much room in the pets shop may have bulked up a bit.
If she was near any males she might be pregnant so you should treat her as if it were possible by feeding plenty protein and keeping her on one level till you have had her 16days. You don't want her having pups in a roof house! You can usually tell if the nipple show and they go pear shaped and bulgy though this does not always happen with small litters.

I will keep an eye on her, she was in with other hamsters that where half her size! I know her breeder was from bakewell.... I think I'm going to call her Remy.

she could be a mother who was returned to the shop with her babies. When i bought Bunsey, this was the case. She was about 4 months old and was in a tank with her baby daughters. This was the reason she wasn't attacking them. It could be a return-to-shop mother and unwanted babies.

All the other hams where half her size. It would be abit sneaky if she is and they didn't tell me she was mummy! It wouldn't change my mind about getting her anyway!

I guess it's best that she's a returning Mum that has just had a litter rather than an unexpectant Mum!
Remy is a lovely name and really suits her

the shop didn't tell me about Bunsey's situation... i just figured it out myself first and then got it confirmed a lot later.
