31 days of May
Happy May Day and happy Friday! With a new month comes a new photo month thread, and this time it's my turn. It's a good month for the Vectis crew to share with you all as there's a range of things we'll be up to: one Midland Hamster Club show, the London Pet Show and also a display at a country show, as well as the usual day-to-day hammyness and several litters in the pipeline.
My last photo month was November 2013 . Some of the hammies from then are still with me, but there will be lots of new faces. Currently I own 24 Chinese hamsters, 12 Syrians, 2 robos, 6 duprasi, 3 fancy mice and 1 dog. I also have 2 Syrians and 1 duprasi here on loan.
Today, to start off a new thread I thought I'd introduce the newest arrivals at Vectis who came home from the Hereford hamster show last weekend: Widget, Walter, Daisy, Bon Jovi and Romeo Romeo (and, no, I don't normally bring back so many in one go!)
Bon Jovi and Romeo Romeo are two handsome longhaired golden Syrians who are here on loan from Hamster Mischief and Tuftyfluff. I have found myself with a lot of girls who are in need of husbands so I am really pleased to have the boys here until the end of the month.

Walter and Daisy are two duprasi who have come from someone who was down-sizing at just the time I was thinking of finding some outcrosses. Walter is 18 months old and Daisy is 6 months old. I'm hoping Daisy will get on with Sirius after she's settled in.

My final newbie is Widget. She's been here at Vectis before when she came to be paired with one of my boys in the hopes of her returning to her owner to have pups. Unfortunately she didn't become pregnant that time, and has returned to live here permanently. She's still young enough to try for a litter so I hope she'll oblige this time!

That's turned out to be a bit of a mammoth start to the month! I'll leave you with a message from my 'giant hamster' who doesn't like to be left out of things:

Re: 31 days of May
I can tell that May is going to be a busy month for us to keep track of with all your family to keep us occupied. The anticipation is palpable of seeing so much fluffiness and from such a variety.
Your new additions are all gorgeous and hope the guests will bring good fortune whilst they are with you.

Re: 31 days of May
Today it's the turn of three boys: Fire, Oats and Baltic. Sorry for the delay. The feeding and watering took a little longer than usual as I found two hams had passed over to Rainbow Bridge curled in their nests. One was Apple (sister of Boblet) who was well over two, and the other was Chale, a just over one lad who had been diabetic for a while and had been starting to fade.
Baltic is just over one and is a smooshy SH satin golden Syrian. He's a bit tricky to photograph as he's not keen on posing and his fur is so shiny!

Noooo! Not more photos! by vectishams, on Flickr
Fire and Oats are related - Persil was Oats's grandad and Fire's great grandad.
Oats featured in my last photo month as a baby ham who had just arrived. He's now a lovely grown up lad and has won two certificates of merit as well as Best in Show up at Emley last year. I'm planning to pair him over the next few days (as long as he tests clear for urine glucose). I was waiting and hoping he'd get a third certificate to make him a champion but I think he's past his best for showing now.

Fire is the son of Souffle's dear Boblet, and brother to Lance. He's a bit of a slender chap, but I hope he'll chunk up more over time. Chinese hams are rather slow to reach their full show potential. I'm looking forward to Fire pups - I'm planning a test mating with a BEW girl to see whether it truly doesn't produce offspring as I've been told.
