Re: Help
I have been using Pets @ Home (P@H) wood shavings in three of my cages for nearly a year without any problems. Bracken and Rue have always been on wood shavings.
Wood shavings are fine as long as they are unscented, kiln-dried pine shavings, dust extracted.
Always keep an eye on your hamsters, regardless of the bedding/substrate you use for any signs of change in their behaviour/health.

Re: Help
Hopefully there wasn't any "fluffy" bedding in the cage when you got it, I know that P@H sometimes include it.
If there is, definitely do not use it - throw it away as that is extremely dangerous for our fluffs, as it can cause blockages if eaten and can get wrapped around limbs and tighten, causing horrible injuries.
You can use plain toilet tissue or tissues for the nesting area. I tear mine into strips and then give larger pieces to some of my fluffs to let them "custom" design their bedding.

Re: Help
I also use Pets At Home brand wood shavings and they are good. I open the bag and take out big handfuls and place them into an open storage bin to air out before I use them. I mix the shavings around with my hands to open them up and release the fine dust. This helps remove the strong odour shavings have straight from the bag. x
