Re: Should I rescue these guys?
So pleased that they are now safe! Females have nipples, so you might be able to see little dots on the belly under the dense fur. But the genitals do look very similar so I don`t think you have a male and a female there, which is great news. Did the idiot who previously owned them say how long they had lived together while they had them? This would have given a clue as to whether one was male and one was female as chances are babies would have come along at some stage.
Have they settled into another cage then?

Re: Should I rescue these guys?
The guy wasn't even there when I showed up to get them. He just left them on the front lawn for me to get. His roommate was inside but he didn't even know how many were in the cage. He said they are 5 months old, which I think is old enough to mate so I think they would have already if they were male and female.
They are in their new cage with some of the old bedding and their wheel that I've arranged to be more of a house until I figure a way to attach it to my bin cage. They seem to be doing very well, they explored all yesterday. I couldn't believe how small the cage was especially for two hamsters.
Thanks guys so much for all the help. You guys really helped me rescue these two.

Re: Should I rescue these guys?
Sounds as though you were meant to see these two in need RedBzu because leaving them on a lawn is so damn irresponsible it`s cruel. They gave no thought to the hamster`s safety should a predator like a cat have come along. It`s just as well you were there at the right time to collect them and get them out of that bad situation. They can only live happy lives now thanks to your kindness. Please keep us updated as to how they are doing. x

Re: Should I rescue these guys?
Hey everyone. So Rosie and Abigail have been doing great, they've adapted pretty well to the move. With only one issue, which I'd like to discuss. Quite a few times I hear cries from their cage. I investigate each time and the majority of the time they are not together. Only once did I walk in and see Abigail on her back with Rosie looking down at her. I'm not sure if they were playing and got rough. I'm not sure if that's even a thing. I'm thinking the best option is to buy a new bin and keep them separate but I'm conflicted because they do seem to enjoy each other. They sleep together and do most things together, like eat and wheel stuff like that.
Any ideas of the best course of action?

Re: Should I rescue these guys?
Hi RedBzu. If they are sleeping together and not actually fighting/chasing or one trying to bully a lot, I would leave them just now and monitor their behaviour. Dwarf hamsters can seem as though they are having a major falling out, but sometimes we just catch them when there is an argument happening!
What cage are they in again? If it`s a single level cage, this is better than anything with levels or tubes leading to another cage. x
