This will probably turn into a bit of a ramble, I have had my little adopted girl for 12 days now and I think I have bored everyone I know by constantly talking about hamsters - !
Smokey was an unexpected arrival - I had been wanting a hamster and thinking about it for ages, but she arrived rather suddenly in the end, in a very small house - ten minutes after she arrived, we were at Pampurred Pets, buying her a new one - they didn't have anything I really liked, but I got her a Rotastak Genus 300 which was at least bigger than she had, to tide her over.
She also got a wooden house, a bridge, a flying saucer...
She really appreciated the extra space. She also really appreciated the bars, as she didn't have any in her old home!
She arrived very tame and friendly, and very happy to be picked up and stroked.
Her previous owner was a bit vague when we asked about favourite foods - carrot was all that was mentioned - we have been trying her on tiny bits of a variety of things to see what she likes, and so far all she has turned her nose up at is dried mealworms.
I got her a ball yesterday, I think she must have had one before as she climbed in happily and steered it like a pro. After she'd toured the entire bungalow, I put the ball on my bed and let her climb out and scamper around while I took some photos.
That white streak on her hip - she has one both sides, they are long tufts like random hair extensions!
I think I need to get a bit quicker though when I am taking her photo...!
Today her 'proper' home arrived, she has a Savic Ruffy 2 rat cage - I was worried it would be too much, another new home, but I put all the contents of her previous home into the new one, bedding and everything - I managed to scoop up her wooden bedroom without disturbing anything inside. She has been having a great time this evening exploring everything - I was going to try and get photos but she's now worn herself out for the moment and gone to bed.
