Biscuit's night wanderings
Every morning when we go into the room where Biscult lives we're greeted by a hamster, typically climbing the bars to get out. This morning Biscuit greeted my wife and came out - but from under the TV!
Now ok, hamsters do sometimes escape. But here's the thing - the cage doors were closed and there was no evidence of any part of the cage having come apart. It's a Hamster Heaven with the penthouse. I've checked it all over, no chewed holes, no loose tubes, the penthouse lid is all clicked shut, the penthouse and main doors are firm and no parts of the cage can be sprung apart sufficiently to provide an escape route.
How on earth did Biscuit get out? Our initial thoughts were one of the boys had him out last night, didn't put him back but did close the door. Strange though, if he'd been out wandering all night I'd expect him to be thirsty but when put back he just wanted out again.
The alternative is that Biscuit has learned to teleport. This could be huge and I shall be writing to 'those kind' of newspapers straight away...

Re: Biscuit's night wanderings
Teleporting hams lol! now that's a scary thought!
Someone else's ham was doing this in a different cage though, the problem turned out to be something like the bars had come loose or broken somewhere so even though it wasn't obvious there was a gap their ham could squeeze through. Might be worth checking all the bars to be sure you don't have a similar problem.

Re: Biscuit's night wanderings
Yeah, I remember that cypher! Seems there was a loose bar and the hamster was getting out and the bar just slipped back after the hamster escaped, sounds like Biscuit had a lot of fun on his adventure. So sweet that he came out to meet your wife when she called him.

It sounds like the new Hamster Resistence Network formula for bar removal and video replacement has worked. Yepppeeee.

Re: Biscuit's night wanderings
Well I find it hard to believe but he was spotted mid-escape last night. He can somehow squeeze out in the space in the bars made where the main door (Hamster Heaven) clips to the roof bars, just where the actual clips are. When I look at the space I have no clue how he can fit, but he did. I didn't see this escapade myself unfortunately.
We've arranged a series of clothes pegs all along to fill any spaces now, and he was spotted attempting the same trick elsewhere to no avail.
He really, really wants out!

Re: Biscuit's night wanderings
Good job he was spotted mid attempt and you now know that it wasn't a case of teleporting!
Clothes pegs have their use!
Biscuit will no doubt be reporting to the Hamster Resistance Network with his debrief.

Re: Biscuit's night wanderings
It's always a great shock when you find out your hamster belongs to the HRN. You always think it'll never happen to your hamster but it does. I've often thought we should start a support group.

Re: Biscuit's night wanderings
I heard gnawing a few days ago and went to investigate, Willow was in the fish tank cupboard lol, we have a large tropical aquarium and the underneath cupboards are open backed, so Willow had obviously gone around the back and got in, she was quite happily munching through the wood and there was lots of chewed up paper stuff, she had found a spare fish tank background and shredded some of that too lol. I still have absolutely no idea long she was out or how she got out of her cage, like yours all the cage doors were shut, she hasn't done it since so I can only assume one of us left a door open, and then the other one of us must have closed it behind her ROFL

Re: Biscuit's night wanderings
My worry now is there are all sorts of cables around that will be powered - at least 4 things never get switched off at the wall.

Re: Biscuit's night wanderings
Clever ham! I suppose you could use a mesh on the bars or go with a tank type cage.
Just watch out though 'cause the HRN is all over tank doors too.
(Hamsters, like cats, are always on the wrong side of every door. Don't take it personally. It's adorable he came out as usual --just from under the TV!
