eating potty litter!

I've jyst bought Jocci a potty and litter off Viovet.. as it was inexpensive. I put it in the cage last night to let her have a mooch.....but in she went and began munching the litter!!! As its hamster litter...im assuming its not going to cause her any harm....? X

I had exactly the same thought, and was just going to post it too, I brought my hamster snowy a hamster heaven cage a few days ago and it came with a potty and as soon as i put it in her first reaction was to eat it, however shes still doing that now, maybe its just that one or two hamsters have a strange side to them!!

I had a ham who always pouched that potty litter out of his tray & put it in his nest! I gave up on it as I didn't like to think he might be eating it & switched to using chinchilla sand in the trays.

Charlie did that the first time he had it too. I think they just want to try it - he sneezed and spat it out again. I don't think its good for them to eat it, but I doubt he'll do it after the first time - just keep an eye on it.

all of mine ive had have done that, they chew it a bit, realise its not food and give up xD
