Russian Hamster?
Just a quick question about breeds really.
I was in P@H yesterday and couldn't quite keep myself from having a little look at the adoption centre. There were a few absolutely gorgeous Syrian hamsters there but next to them was a 'Russian hamster'.
I originally thought he might be a Russian dwarf but he poked his head out and was the size of a Syrian!
He was white with the same kind of face as a Roborovski - is this a separate breed from Syrians or was it just a really large Russian?

Re: Russian Hamster?
Must have been a really large Russian! There are only Syrians, Chinese, Robo, Campbell's Dwarf, Djungarian, and hybrids of the last 2 species. Can you get a picture?

Re: Russian Hamster?
If he was labelled as a Russian then he probably is, unless the staff in there don`t know their hamsters! Russian hamsters can sometimes look larger, while some are smaller in size. My hybrid is quite a chunky lad and he was an adoption from PAH.
Did the ticket say he had been returned to the store?

Re: Russian Hamster?
Russian ham would be a hybrid (mix between Winter White Russian Dwarf Hamster and Campbell's Dwarf Hamster ). There is no such a species as only Russian Hamster.

Re: Russian Hamster?
Yep. Russian is what those hybrids are usually labelled! Being hybrids though there is a large range in appearance
