hamster heaven cage
I am thinking of buying my hamster snowy a hamster heaven cage soon, i have some questions about it and here they are:
1) where is the cheapest place to buy one from in the uk, i have seen one on the pets at home website for £60 is that the cheapest place to buy from.
2) how do the shelves /levels attach to the cage bars also are they strong when connected.
3) how big is the cage and is it suitable for a syrian hamster.
4) what does the cage come with
5) is that the best cage to buy or is another better than that.
Thankyou

Re: hamster heaven cage
1) £60 is as good a price as you're going to get since Amazon put their price up, yeah.
2) the green shelf sits on the top of the base and its secured by the cage top clipping down. It's very secure. The pink shelf has three little screws which secure it to the bars which you tighten yourself, this makes the height of this shelf adjustable. It's also pretty secure, I've never had a problem with it moving.
3) it's 80x50cm so it's suitable but I personally would buy a bigger cage if I was buying again. The tubes are borderline risky if you have a large syrian which I do, she can't turn round in them but I only use one very short tube section and I don't use the penthouse. For a large syrian the penthouse would be a bit cramped.
4) it comes with two little hideaways built into the shelves, two bowls which also slot in, ramps for each shelf, a potty with a small bag of litter, a water bottle which I like, an 8 inch wheel and a stand and depending on the model a variety of tubes and a penthouse to attach to the top. I think that's everything, you get all the basics, you can just add the bedding and be okay.
5) there are cheaper options in the same size range like the Alaska or slightly bigger like the Alexander. It's a good cage and I like it, particularly the carry handles, the option to attach it to other cages with the tubes and the range and quality of accessories you get is great. The wheel isn't suitable for full grown Syrians but it's okay for a baby and there's no cage that includes a 12 inch wheel.
There are reviews in the housing section including the one I wrote when I first got the cage if you search for them. Hope that's some help!

Hamster Cages: great selection at zooplus: Hamster Heaven 80 Cage
^the cage is £59.90 on zooplus
personally, i do like the cage, although i do agree with shannonmcn about the tubes. if you are unsure, there are loads of other cages on zooplus which are bigger and possibly cheaper

Re: hamster heaven cage
Hi,
I bought a hamster heaven cage for Godfrey from zooplus, for £55, and it's a superb cage, very roomy, I changed the wheel for a 12" one when he grew a bit more, the only thing that's a bit of a pain is that Godfrey likes to wee in the tubes, and his penthouse box instead of the sawdust at the bottom, so it takes a bit longer to clean him out , with washing everything, but it just gives him more playtime while I'm doing it ,

Re: hamster heaven cage
I can't answer all the questions because Ive never purchased any pet store cage, from the size it is suitable for a hamster, but I think it's the bare minimum for a Syrian, as (s)he grows they might not fit it the tubes, it's okay for a part time cage but I do suggest getting a bin cage or a tank! When I visited pets at home they told me their cages aren't big enough for hamsters and are sold more for mice!

Re: hamster heaven cage
With a £60 budget I'd reccomend rather going for the Barney which is the same price on Zooplus but much bigger. That extra space really makes a big difference especially since you're going to have to fit in Syrian sized toys which are fairly large.

Re: hamster heaven cage
I'd agree with Ruby, I have a HH for one of my dwarfs & even without all the tubes & shelves etc. I don't find it big enough & it's hard to get enough toys, wheel etc. in.
About the only thing I really like about it is the big front opening, the base has a really big slope on it so you actually lose a fair bit of floor space which is what you need the most of really.
