Signed! Thank you for making me aware of the petition Also tried signing the ban on fluffy bedding, but I'm not a UK citizen, sadly.

Re: Petition regarding cage sizes!
" many animals are being sold to a life of imprisonment, and a lack of enrichment. Hence, this can lead to behaviours, such as bar chewing in hamsters, which prevent owners from keeping their pets."
I've never known or read of anyone giving up their pet due to bar chewing!
" For example, the RSPCA laid down a minimum of 75x50cm for a hamster cage"
I think I read on here somewhere that since the RSPCA have been working with a big pet chain they no longer recommend that sized cage, sorry I can't remember who wrote it or on which thread the comment was left on.

Re: Petition regarding cage sizes!
The RSPCA do occasionally post their 75 x 50cm guideline in the description of the hamsters they have for re-homing.
As I wrote the petition myself, and rescue hamsters, I can also say that people do give up hamsters because they bar chew, because they make too much noise. I'm afraid that it does happen and I have been given rescues before because they were causing too much noise which the owner was not happy with.
Thank you for posting this here, RubyRose

Re: Petition regarding cage sizes!
Blimey could they not just buy a tank?!
It's the way it's worded, if RSPCA occasionally post their 75 x 50cm guideline in the description of the hamsters they have for re-homing, perhaps that would of been a more accurate way of wording it, how you have worded it makes it sound like it's a rule instead of a guide.
Anyway I hope you get from the petition the outcome you want

Re: Petition regarding cage sizes!
Most people would not think of getting a tank I'm afraid, there are some people that would see it as a waste of their money when they already paid for the cage the hamster is in. Of course, with said hamsters, usually all they need is a larger cage and a wheel then can run on properly.
I did use past tense regarding the RSPCA minimum, though I have now edited it to quote the current PDSA cage size, of at least 75 x 30cm, as listed on their website.
Of course I understand that some hamsters prefer smaller, but during my time rescuing I have come into contact with people that kept their hamsters, and most recently, a gerbil, in the carriers sold for small pets, so to try and start a law to give some sort of minimum is better than nothing
