i love my hammy....
Ive just been reading through the forums, catching up as i havent been on very often of late. I have been reading the memorials and so many little furry pals have been lost since i joined this forum last August. Im sat here in tears - so many lovely words. So sorry to all of you who have lost a beloved pet in recent months. I hope its gonna be a long while yet before i have to say goodbye to my girl Jocardi...but its breaking my heart thinking about it right now. 8 months ago, i would never have believed a person could become so attached to and love a hamster so much.....and now i cant bare the thought of being without her.
so sorry for being so soppy......

Re: i love my hammy....
I totally understand how you feel. Since joining the forum nearly 4 months ago, I've read about so many members who've lost their beloved hammies and I've cried a lot of tears, then you hear happy news about members getting new additions to their hamilies and it makes you smile again. Also the joy when I read about hammies being rescued and adopted.
Being a hammie mom makes me appreciate mine much more and to ensure they are spoilt rotten because you never know what's round the corner.
I never in a million years ever thought I'd get so attached when I got my first hammie over 15 years ago, and I've had hammies ever since. For such a small animal they have a huge impact on our lives.

Re: i love my hammy....
I don't think it's soppy at all, reading the memorials here always makes me sad too, it makes me think about the hams I've lost & just how much I love & appreciate the three I have now, I do think about how short their lives will be & that I will have to face up to them going to the bridge one day but they give me so much happiness I find I really don't have time to dwell on it!

Re: i love my hammy....
I used to think I wouldnt get so attached to a hamster as I would a cat or dog...(well its not quite the same) ,but its amazing how you get used to that little presence.
My beautiful silky girl is so cuddly and gentle..I can do anything with her..total trust...she loves a massage and goes really floppy.
Every time she smells food she is out for a small treat of whatever we are having(sensibly)...I will be devastated when she goes!!!

Re: i love my hammy....
Hamsters are the best, I've loved all mine like they were people! So glad to know I'm not the only one It is devastating to lose them and I would say even now there is a hole in my heart for each of them that have gone, but their individuality, charisma and general lovability is astonishing xx

Re: i love my hammy....
You know. Even now, when I am 60 years old, my family members, cousins and such, will ask me..."You still have those rats?" *sigh* The idea that I actually love my small fluffs doesn't seem to occur to them. Lots of folks don't see them as comparable to dogs and cats. Yes, I love them all. I can remember quite clearly my first gerbil...Henry. He turned me on to rodents. They are small, soft, smart and so cute. I really don't care how big or small an animal is. They become part of my family and it is dreadful when they go on to the Rainbow Bridge. But, I have said this before: I wouldn't want to have lived my life without them in it. In the same way that people have added to my life, so have all of my pets. So, no, Lady Jocardi...you are certainly not alone in getting deeply attached to a hamster. Hopefully, your Jocardi will be a happy HC ham for a long time to come.

Re: i love my hammy....
I can't imagine not having hamsters in my life. I've been on quite a few journeys with mine but, I wouldn't have it any other way, they bring me such joy. I would do anything for mine.
DrK - I hope I look after hamsters for 50 plus years.
